about

When describing music, it seems almost automatic to use colors to portray the emotion of a song. Spectrum aims to toy with that premise in the reverse way. I named each song on this record the color I thought it best represented.
You'll go through many worlds in Spectrum. All I hope is that you're willing to sit back, listen in, and interpret each song - and the album - however you'd like. Thank you for listening.

"Color is like a language, even if the meaning of a particular color varies with interpretation and use."
- John Hench

Track Name: Mt. Grey
You have to know,
You have to know that
I gave myself the only word I knew.
What else could I do?
I fork my tongue when they ask questions.
I'm fooling them so I can fool myself.
Can you blame me?

I've seen fires
Too raging to put out.
So I'll just let them burn
And paint the mountains grey.

No one told me I should go there.
No one said that I'd be there alone.
Would you be there if I tried?
Don't tell me yes if you mean no, 'cause
A lot can happen in a day or two.
Has it not been more than two?

I've seen fires
Too raging to put out.
So I'll just let them burn
And paint the mountains grey.
Track Name: Little Orange Light
Quit your drinking,
But have one more.
Heavy-handed,
You pour
And pour.

Overwhelming,
Anymore.
Not so repelling
Like before.

It’s good to see you;
It’s good to see you smiling.

This little orange light is twice as lonely,
But I’ll do anything to pass the time.
And I hope you will too.
(Too) late to start too soon to finish, but
I can’t hear their warnings.

Little something,
Placeholder.
For another thing.
Who knows?
Who knows?
And now it’s clear,
But then it’s blurry.
I can’t stand at ease.
Too cold.
Too cold.

This little orange light is twice as lonely,
But I’ll do anything to pass the time.
And I hope you will too.
(Too) late to start too soon to finish, but
I can’t hear their warnings. This little orange light is twice as lonely,
But I’ll do anything to pass the time.
And I hope you will too.
(Too) late to start too soon to finish, but
I can’t hear their warnings.
Track Name: Film Noir
Film noir’s got you up late;
Later than usual - oh.
You say you have to wake up early,
But when do you ever sleep?
Anyway.
The sunrise came but you forgot - oh.

Film noir’s got you up late,
But when do you sleep?
Anyway.

Like a bat in a cave.
Like a bat in a cave.
Like a bat in a cave.

The sunrise came but you forgot.
The sunrise came but you forgot.
Oh, The sunrise came but you forgot it.
Yeah, The sunrise came but you forgot it.
How could you forget?
Woah-oh-oo-oh
Woah-oh-oo-oh
Woah-oh-oh

Film noir’s got you up late,
But when do you sleep?

Like a bat in a cave.
Like a bat in a cave.
Like a bat in a cave.
Track Name: Dark Red
If we dig far enough, we’ll hit rock bottom.
Hanging loose are the cuffs that hold you together.

I can not deal.
I can not hang.
There is not thought.
There is no blame.

I’m not usually like this,
All wide-eyed and confident, but
There’s just something about your blood
That makes me want to use you.

I’ll love you like a mattress.
I’ll paint your fingers red.
I’ll hang you up to dry,
Then use you again.

That’s love, dear.
There is trust here.
That’s love, dear.
There is trust here.

That’s love.
That’s love, dear.
There is trust.
There is trust here. (x3)

I can not deal.
I can not hang.

That is trust, that is trust, dear // There is love, there is love here
That is trust, that is trust, dear // There is love, there is love here
That is trust, that is trust, dear // There is love, there is love here
That is trust, that is trust, dear // There is love, there is love here
Track Name: Wet Sand
I would like to be you,
But only for a day,
Because walking in your shoes
Can really take a toll on me.
So don’t tell me I don’t know what it’s like,
Because I do.

Oh, grant me clarity
Because I can hardly see
My hand right on my face.
I swear my eyesight has been erased.
So don’t tell me I don’t know what it’s like,
Because I do.
I do.
I do.
I do.
Track Name: Intermission
Today
Everywhere
Last Week
First
That's all
Track Name: Blue
Come to my rescue.
I don’t deserve you.
If I’m going crazy,
Then I think I like crazy, Ol’ Blue.

Hey little dancer,
I thought you were farther
Away from extinction.
Oh, what was I thinking with you?
You show your dark side
By showing my inside
Your strangely depicted mind
And somehow I gave into you.

There you go singing songs again
That I used to know.
So I start to sing, try as I might,
But I’m just turning blue.

Outside your window,
The sidewalks are crowding
With pairs in a two-step;
Their hands won’t rest down by their sides.
I wish I had seen you
When we were both next to
Our apple tree homeland
And dance like we used to do.

There you go singing songs again
That I used to know.
So I start to sing, try as I might - oh
There you go singing songs again
That I used to know.
So I start to sing, try as I might,
But I’m just turning blue.
I’m just turning blue.
Come to my rescue.
I don’t deserve you, Ol’ Blue.
Track Name: Green and Brown, Telescope, Egg Shell, etc.
There’s still some green in your eyes.
There’s still some brown in mine.
Withdrawn, detached,
I’m feeling noncommittal.
Too scared, too kind,
Too many things at once.
Someone, listen closely.

Overrated, understanding on my toes.
Seeing is believing with a telescope.
Big mistakes are nothing when you’ve had a few.
Out of nowhere, I wish I’d recover you. (I could summon you.)
Someone, turn me over.

I have a lot of questions;
I have a lot of types of questions.
But, I have some answers;
And I never have answers.
And lately, I feel like an egg shell.
And baby, I’ve got so much to say:
Should I cry about it?
Should I write about it?
One thing’s for sure,
I sure won’t try to count it .
Should I cry about it?
Should I write about it?
One thing’s for sure,
I sure won’t try to count it.
Maybe you can feel it too,
The November Sun has burnt out.

etc.
Track Name: Violets
You’ve got your hand on my chest
And it makes me wild when you undress.
And I try and I try to wait some more,
But my time is best spent undone.

For a while, I get to act like a man.
Doing right by no one other than me.
And I don’t have much left on my
Morning album to hear this time.

You really don’t care you’re not the one I love?
You really don’t care you’re not the one I love? (I’m alone Sunday morning)
You really don’t care you’re not the one I love?
You really don’t care you’re not the one I love? (Alone Sunday morning)
You really don’t care you’re not the one I love?

Fill the dots with lines to make a scene.
Paint the numbers with colors new to me.
When the canvas dries, you’ll start to see
With a sharper eye.

I’m alone Sunday morning.
Alone Sunday morning.
Alone Sunday Morning.
Alone Sunday Morning.
Alone.
Alone.

You really don’t care you’re not the one I love?
You really don’t care you’re not the one I love?
You really don’t care you’re not the one I love?
You really don’t care you’re not the one I love?
You really don’t care you’re not the one I love?
You really don’t care you’re not the one I love?
Track Name: Almost Silver (Bronze)
I’m so bronze I’m almost silver.
Holding out ‘till I remember
What it’s really all about
When I try to think about it.

I’m so bronze I’m almost rusting:
Crumbling under your spell.
You’re the last thing I suspected.
You’re the reason why I doubt it.

Woo-hoo
Woo-hoo

I’m so bronze I’m almost silver.
I’ve forgotten how to cry.
If I’m found, do not resuscitate.
You’re the reason why I doubt it.

Woo-hoo
Woo-hoo
Woo-hoo // I’m so silver
I’m so silver
Woo-hoo // I’m so silver
I’m so almost bronze // Woo-hoo
Track Name: Clear Head
I’m slowing down the time
So that I can see more clearly.
Is it blue or green?
Is it something else completely?
I guess I’ll just go on believing,
Nothing more.

Does it ever seem
Like a fog is thickening
Around clearer things?
It looks much better in my head
Because everything looks better
In my head.

I’m building walls and floors,
But I’m leaving off the ceiling
So I can see the stars,
But I just keep on forgetting
That it’s as simple as just leaning
Back my head.
It looks much better in my head.
Yeah, it looks much better in my head, my head.

Hard to come by a clear head.
Hard to come by a clear head.
Hard to come by a clear head.
Hard to come by a clear head.
Hard to come by a clear head.
Hard to come by a clear head.
Hard to come by a clear head.
Hard to come by a clear head.
